Five – my Emma is five years old now dear people. And yes, if I had let myself stop to think about it longer than a moment I would have cried the entire week leading up to her birthday. Instead, I decided to rely upon the fine art of denial distraction, by planning a tea party, a day for “GIRLS ONLY!”, a celebration of the kind, pure spirit we are honored to parent. It’s amazing how losing yourself in the world of paper crafts and tea cups can pass the time until suddenly there you are, staring into the eyes of a young girl, no trace of baby or toddler or even preschooler left to be found. And the eye faucet once again turns on…
Dreaming up Emma’s day was loads of creative fun – from the tissue paper pom poms to the Amy Butler paper flowers to the dozens of fabric blooms for our headband craft- I had a great time putting it all together. I also had a LOT of help from a couple of dear friends and family members, and could not have pulled the day off without them, especially considering Emma had firmly banished every male from the property during the party. My hope is the birthday girl and her cu-ute! friends enjoyed the event even more than I did preparing it. It was a good day. Good enough to keep this mama’s tears at bay… for a couple of hours anyway.
happy birthday my sweet girl – may you feel celebrated every day of your life.

I included this last photo simply because that look... it's just her.
